Tomato sauce in jar

I was making meatball sliders to bring to a potluck last weekend. It would have been easy to grab a jar of sauce, but I didn’t have time to run to the store. I tossed this together in the crock pot before cooking the meatballs. This sauce is tasty and easy to make – perfect for a weeknight dinner.

Semi-Homemade Slow Cooker Tomato Sauce

Prefect for a weeknight dinner, this sauce is done in 20 minutes.
Prep Time5 mins
Cook Time20 mins
Total Time25 mins
Course: Sauces
Cuisine: Italian
Keyword: crock pot pasta sauce, homemade pasta sauce, slow cooker pasta sauce
Servings: 3 cups

Equipment

  • Slow cooker

Ingredients

  • 1 28 oz can tomato puree
  • 2 packets Good Seasons Italian dressing mix
  • 3 tbsp dried minced onion
  • ½ tsp pepper

Instructions

  • Combine all ingredients in a slow cooker.
  • Cook on high for 20 minutes, or low for at least 1 hour.

Notes

You can also simmer this on the stovetop instead for 20 minutes. I use the slow cooker because I usually add meatballs (see meatball sub sliders), so it’s easy to just add the meatballs right into the sauce for cooking.
