Recipes that use the KitchenAid stand mixer
I love, love, love my stand mixer! This is seriously a workhorse in my kitchen. I use it for a lot more than baking – I even use it to shred cooked boneless chicken. One of my favorite things about the mixer is that I can have something mixing while I start something else. The attachments are also great. I have the ice cream maker and several pasta attachments.

Cuisinart Immersion Blender (aka Stick Blender or Hand Blender)

This is a great tool to have for making soups and sauces. I’ve even used it to make whipped potatoes. I think I originally got this for making chicken tortilla soup, and I’ve been surprised by how much I actually use it.
The reason I don’t feel like I need a hand mixer in my kitchen is because I have the stand mixer, immersion blender, and regular blender – between these three tools, I don’t need to have a hand mixer.

The slow cooker is nice for recipes that need to cook for a long time, especially when I don’t want the extra heat from using a dutch oven on the stovetop or in the oven. I personally don’t leave the slow cooker on while I’m not home for extended periods of time because I’m afraid a dog is going to help herself, or something might burn and catch on fire.
I got this model for my sister for Christmas a few years ago, and she uses it all the time. It has a 6 quart capacity. I like that the pot can be used for stovetop browning because that means one less pan to wash. When using it for stovetop browning, just be careful not to get stuff on the bottom of the pot that would burn once the pot is transferred to the slow cooker. This one is also programmable with a timer, so if I’m doing a lot around the house, I don’t have to remember what time to reduce it to warm.

Why not just a regular $20 blender? Because this one is amazing. I’ve never been able to make a margarita without still having some chunks of ice – until I got a Vitamix. I use it to make powdered sugar. It’s great for pureeing. I’ve even made salsa in it. It’s not as bulky or hard to clean as a food processor, yet can do a lot of the same things. I still have a food processor that I use when I need a larger capacity or wider bowl, and for making pie crust – but the Vitamix can do a lot! There are a lot of different models available, and you really can’t go wrong with any of them. The one pictured is the 750, which is the model I have. I love that it has a self-cleaning option – you just put a little bit of soapy water in it, let the cleaning cycle run, and rinse. It also has different settings for pureeing, making soups, etc.
